JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern: Question Paper Pattern, Marking Scheme, Duration

JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA). NTA has decided there will be negative marking for both Section A and Section B in B.E/B.Tech exam. The question paper will contain 90 questions, in which the candidate will have to attempt a total of 75 questions. The exam will be conducted to enrol the candidates in Undergraduate Engineering Programs at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTI).  Authority has made some changes in the JEE Main 2024 exam pattern & syllabus, which candidates must be familiar with the JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme. JEE Exam Pattern Latest Updates:

The JEE Main 2024 exam is yet to be announced, so there are no official updates to the exam. However, there are some tentative updates that have been circulating online. These updates include:

  • The exam will be conducted in two sessions, January and April.
  • JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern will be released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in November 2023..
  • The JEE Main 2024 examination will take place between January 24 and February 1, 2024.

What is new in JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern?

NTA has introduced the negative marking in both sections A and B for the B.Tech/B.E exam. Till last year negative marking is applicable only in section A. Check the changes in the exam pattern here:

JEE Main 2024 Exam Pattern

Candidates may appear in B. E./B.Tech or B. Arch. or B. Planning, or both according to the course in which they want to get enrolled.

New Scheme of Examination: Keeping in mind various decisions taken by various Boards across the country regarding amendments in the syllabus, NTA has decided that the question paper will contain 90 questions, in which the candidate will have to attempt a total of 75 questions. The choice will be given in Section B (numerical), which will not have any negative marking.

Examination Pattern

  • Mode of Examination: JEE (Main) 2024 Examination will be held in “Computer Based Test” (CBT) Mode only, except that the Drawing Test for B.Arch. will be held in “Pen & Paper” (offline) mode.
  • Medium of Question Paper shall be in Assamese, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu in addition to Hindi, English and Gujarati.
  • Exam Duration will be of 3 hours (180 minutes)
  • Marking Scheme will be - (+4) for every correct answer and (-1) for every wrong answer. NO Negative Marking for Numerical Value-Based Questions.
  • Those candidates who wish to appear for B.Arch, as well as B.Planning, will have the duration of examination 3.30 hrs. i.e. from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What are Numerical Value Type Questions in JEE Main 2024?

This Year National Testing Agency has introduced a new type of questions called Numerical value type questions in which the candidate will be given options, and he/she has to type in or enter the answer. For each paper, there will be 05 such questions with no negative marking. Candidates would be given a virtual calculator to type in their answer or response against such questions.

General Instructions for JEE Main 2024

  • Candidates will not be permitted to use electronic devices like mobile phones, calculators, etc.  in JEE (Main) 2024.
  • Candidates will not be allowed to carry Instrument/Geometry/Pencil box, Handbag, Purse, any kind of Paper/ Stationery/ Textual material (printed or written material), Eatables and Water (loose or packed), Mobile Phone/ Ear Phone/ Microphone/ Pager, Calculator, Slide Rules, Log Tables, Camera, Tape Recorder, Electronic Watches with facilities of calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets, etc. in the Examination Room/ Hall.
  • However, diabetic patients will be allowed to carry eatables like sugar tablets/ fruits (like banana/ apple/ orange) and transparent water bottle to the examination hall. However, they will not be allowed to carry packed foods like sandwich/chocolate/candy, etc.
  • Furthermore, Candidates must bring their pencils, their own geometry box set, erasers, colour pencils, and crayons for the Aptitude Test of Paper 2.
