GMAT 2024 Syllabus: Section-wise Breakdown & Exam Pattern

The Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) will begin the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) Focus Edition registrations from tomorrow, August 29. Interested candidates can apply for GMAT 2023 at – gmac.com.

The GMAT 2024 exam is designed to assess the analytical, writing, quantitative, and verbal skills of aspiring business school students. The exam consists of four sections: Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA), Integrated Reasoning (IR), Quantitative Reasoning (QR), and Verbal Reasoning (VR).

The GMAT 2024 exam is a computer-based test that takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete. The exam is divided into four sections, with optional breaks between each section.

The GMAT syllabus consists of Three main sections:

The GMAT Focus Edition will be of two hours and 15 minutes with one optional 10 minute break with a total of 64 questions.

1. Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA): This section assesses the candidate's critical thinking and analytical writing skills. The candidate is given an argument or an issue and is required to analyze it and present their views in a well-structured manner.
2. Integrated Reasoning (IR): This section tests the candidate's ability to interpret and analyze complex data presented in various formats such as graphs, charts, and tables.
3. Quantitative Aptitude (QA): This section assesses the candidate's mathematical skills and ability to solve problems in algebra, geometry, and arithmetic.
4. Verbal Ability (VA): This section tests the candidate's ability to read and comprehend written material, evaluate arguments, and correct written material to conform to standard written English.

GMAT Quantitative Reasoning Syllabus

GMAT entrance exam paper for Quantitative  has divided into two different sections i.e., Data Sufficiency and Problem Solving

• Data Sufficiency: In this section, questions would ask to test knowledge of logical and analytical reasoning for solving the questions.
• Problem Solving: Examine the candidate's ability to the quantitative problem, identify which data is important, and determine at what point there are enough data to solve the problem.

GMAT Analytical Writing Assessment Syllabus

This section particularly assesses the candidates’ writing style. They are asked to write an essay or may be asked to analyse an argument. They need to closely examine the argument, try to figure out the reasoning behind the argument and come up with a methodical approach to answer the question. One important point to remember here is that candidates have to be extra cautious about the proper grammar usage while presenting the answer.

GMAT Integrated Reasoning Syllabus

• Table Analysis (TA): Table Analysis measures your ability to sort and analyze a table comprising data, like a spreadsheet, to determine the significant information or the one that meets certain conditions. 
• Two-Part Analysis (2PA): Table Analysis measures your ability to sort and analyze a table comprising data, like a spreadsheet, to determine the significant information or the one that meets certain conditions.
• Multi-Source Reasoning (MSR): Multi-Source Reasoning requires examining the data from multiple sources tables, graphics, text passages, or a combination of all the three and analyze each source of data carefully to answer multiple questions. Thus, the candidates will be asked to draw inferences and others may require you to determine whether data is important. 
• Graphics Interpretation (GI): Graphics Interpretation requires you to interpret the information presented in a graph or graphical image (scatter plot, x/y graph, bar chart, pie chart, or statistical curve distribution) to find out relationships and make inferences that will eventually help you in analyzing the business performance.

GMAT Verbal Reasoning Syllabus

questions set forth an argument that you then analyze which measures your skill to make arguments, evaluate arguments, and formulate or evaluate a plan of action. There are eight different types of CR questions, all of which are multiple choices.

It measures the candidates skill to draw inferences, understand logical relationships between significant points, understand words and statements, and follow the development of quantitative concepts. Apart from this, the candidates’ will be tested on the following reading skills: inference, application, main idea, supporting the idea, logical structure, and style.

In this section, candidates are given a sentence with an underlined portion and multiple choices to answer. To crack this question, candidates have to be familiar with English grammar and choose the best possible answer to a question which is in compliance with standard written English and see the sentence construction is accurate.
