PhD Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates who have passed 10th or 11th class/grade and PUC or higher secondary before joining programme and UG before joining PG degree programme can apply.

and 

• The Post Graduate shall be in the respective areas of research in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). For SC/ ST/ OBC(NCL)/ PwD candidates, there is a relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent CGPA.
• M.S (by Research) or M.Phil degree in the respective areas of research.
• Mariners with Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency or PGDMOM qualification with 2 years of
  continuous teaching experience at degree level as faculty in IMU / IMU Affiliated Institutes/DG(S) approved
  institutes.

M.S (By Research) Eligibility Criteria

The candidates should fulfil the following criteria to be eligible to apply for M.S programme:

• Under Graduate degree in a relevant discipline with at least 55% marks or equivalent Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), except in the case of Mariners for whom a Master or MEO Class I Certificate of Competency would suffice. For SC/ST/OBC(NCL)/PwD Candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent CGPA.

IMU Chennai PhD & MS Programmes 2020 Selection Process

After filling the application form the candidates will be selected for final admission in the above programmes after qualifying the entrance test for which details have provided below:

• This will be Multiple Choice Questions to test a candidate’s General Mental Ability, knowledge on the Maritime sector & on the relevant discipline/area of research in which the candidate proposes to do the PhD or M.S (By Research). This shall have 40% weightage.
• This test will have 120 Questions
• The time duration is 2 hours (120 Minutes).

• Descriptive writing Test will be held to assess proficiency in technical writing & English will be in the general area in which the candidate is interested to do research. This shall have 30% weightage.
• The time duration of this paper is of 1 hour (60 Minutes).

• Personal Interview will be organised by the Departmental Committee at IMU Headquarters for the qualifying candidates which will have 30% weightage.

• To qualify to Stage II, aspirants should secure a minimum of 50% in Stage I.
• To participate in Stage III, the Candidate should secure minimum 50% in Stage II.
• For the candidates convenient, Descriptive Writing Test will be conducted immediately after the Written Test (Stage I) at the same test venue. However the answer scripts of those candidates who secure 50% or more in Stage I will be evaluated to finalize the list of Candidates eligible for Personal Interview (Stage III)
• The candidate may choose to join either Full time or Part-time programme.

• Seeling candidates must apply online on the official website of the university only (https://www.imu.edu.in// )
• The candidates must provide all the relevant details to avoid rejection of the form.
• Applicants must complete both the registration parts (Basic Registration & Detailed Registration).
• Please verify the information before clicking the Submit Button, as once details will be submitted can not be then modified.
• Applicants must note down Application number & Password which will be generated after completing basic registration.
• Only those who have completed Basic Registration and made Online Payment towards Registration Fees will be allowed to complete Detailed Registration.
• Candidates need not submit any hard copy of the application to the University campus.
• Candidates shall upload the following documents at the time of Detailed Registration:
  • Scanned copy of the passport size photograph
  • Scanned copy of the signature of the candidate. 
  • Scanned copy of 10th Standard Mark Sheet or equivalent 
  • Scanned copy of 12th Standard Mark Sheet (wherever applicable). 
  • Scanned copy of UG Degree Certificate (wherever applicable).
  • Scanned copy of PG Degree Certificate (wherever applicable).
  • Community Certificate in respect of SC/ST/OBC (NCL) 
  • Economically Weaker Section Certificate (for General-EWS Candidates). 
  • Scanned copy of relevant Certificate of Competency (applicable to Mariners).
• After successful completion of the registration form candidates can download it, must get the printout of it for all future references.
