Calcutta University (CU KOLKATA) - PhD Admission

The candidates can download the application form from the Calcutta University official website for the entrance test and interview. Candidate have to submit the admission form along with the application fee of Rs. 100/- in the proper challan that can be obtained from the University cash counter to the department.

Candidate have to submit the duly filled application forms, and the challan (obtainable from the Cash Counter of the University at the College Street campus) of Rs.100/- at the office, on working days only. The challan should be enclosed by the Office of the Department before fees deposition at Cash Counter of the Calcutta University.

Calcutta University Ph.D Admission 2020 Eligibility

 Given below is the subject wise eligibility criteria for PhD admission at Calcutta University:

• Candidates must have a Master’s degree with 55% marks or more or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale.
• Reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PH) candidates will be given relaxation of 5% marks.
• The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories is only on the qualifying marksthat candidates have obtained without including the grace mark.

• Candidates with Master’s degree (M.Sc in Physics) with 55% marks or more or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale can apply.
• UGC/CSIR(JRF and LS)/NET/SET/SLET/GATE (with valid GATE score)/Teacher Eligibility or equivalent exam qualified candidates or M. Phil passed graduates are exempted from the written examination.

• Candidates must have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7-point scale.
• Candidates must have masters degree in the stream of M.A./ M.Sc. in Psychology/ Applied Psychology or must qualified Ph.D Entrance Examination/NET/SET and Course Work.

• Candidates must be either qualified NET/SET/M. Phil (from any recognized university with 2-semester/ l-year course work) or qualified in the research entrance test (RET) conducted by the university department.
• Applicants who are expected to have M. Phil degree in Economics (or a related discipline like Development Studies, Foreign Policy Management, etc. with Masters degree in Economics) from any UGC recognized university does not need to appear in the RET and can apply directly in the interview.

• Candidates with Master’s Degree in Comparative Indian Language and Literature or any other allied literature programmme with specialization in Comparative Indian Literature/ Comparative Literature with minimum of 55% marks or grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 – point scale or any other qualification degree.
• Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Differently-abled- categories will be given relaxation of 5% marks, i.e. 50% marks is required for such candidates.

• Candidates with Master’s Degree in Education/M.Ed with minimum 55% marks or its equivalent grade B+ in the UGC 7 point scale or an equivalent grade in a point scale where ever grading system is followed are eligible for this course.
• A relaxation of 5% marks i.e. 50% or an equivalent relaxation of gradeare required for SC/ST/OBC/Differently abled candidates.

Calcutta University Ph.D Admission 2020 Selection Process

The Calcutta university conducts an Ph.D. entrance test of 100 marks for the eligible candidates. The entrance test is conducted once in a year and candidate must score at least 50% to be eligible for interview. Admissions of Calcutta University is done on the the basis of a written test followed by an interview. Candidates with NET/SET/M. Phil are not required to appear in the written test. Such candidates can apply directly for the interview.

Calcutta University Ph.D Admission RET 2020 Result

Candidates can check the result of PhD entrance test from the official website of Calcutta university or he/she can visit the department official website respectively. University will release the list of qualified candidates for the enrollment to the Ph.D. programme after the exam is conducted. Qualified candidates will be called for an interview/counselling in their relevant departments. Final selection is done on the basis of the overall performance of the candidates.
